Hi Miss Fisher fans!
Well, I’m sorry to have to do it, but I have to correct something I said in the last update. When I talked about membership fees, I said that they would be tax deductible. Unfortunately, that’s not actually the case.
Becoming a nonprofit will help the ACotA by keeping us focused on a clear mission and keeping us accountable to our members (hopefully you). It also means that because all of the reporting we will be required to do is public, our business practices will be transparent. It’s worth reiterating that all of the money we receive from membership and registration for the con goes back into funding the con and any regional events.
Stay tuned - we’ll have more information on membership details (including how you can become a member) soon.
Sorry for any confusion!
Big news, Miss Fisher fans!
As you may know, we established the Adventuresses’ Club of the Americas (ACotA) as just a name for the group of volunteers who produced the 2017 Miss Fisher Con in Las Vegas. When we began, we had no real intention of the con becoming an annual thing - we only knew that we wanted it to exist. The success of the con in May was both delightful and terrifying, and we came to the conclusion that if we wanted to continue to produce this event, we needed to be more formal about our association.
So we are proud to announce that as of October 2017, the ACotA is a registered 501(c)7 nonprofit social organization! You can read our mission at the bottom of this email or on our website at www.missfishercon.com. The con staff are still all unpaid volunteers, but the con itself is packaged up much more neatly as far as the IRS is concerned.
We have determined inaugural board members to serve this coming year; new board member terms will begin following the 2018 Miss Fisher Con in June. This year’s board members are:
These seven, along with Sophie Cohen-Kleinlerer and Mana Sackley (con committee members who aren’t on the board), make up the entirety of the current con staff.
“But what does this mean,” you ask? More details will be coming, but the bottom line is that you too can be an official member of the ACotA. All of your dues will be put back into producing the annual convention (to pay for everything from airfare for VIPs down to the paper for the con agenda) or occasional smaller regional events. As an ACotA member, you will receive an exclusive membership pin and, beginning with the 2019 Miss Fisher Con, you’ll get a discount on registration. You’ll also be able to nominate new board members and participate in the annual board elections.
On a personal note, ACotA members will also get the satisfaction of helping bring this amazing event to life year after year, and for me, that’s the selling point. This fandom changed my life for the better - it’s going to sound like hyperbole, but I am truthfully a happier, more complete person because of it. If I can support the fandom and the beautiful people in it, I want to do it. I hope that you feel the same.
For those fans in the US, happy Thanksgiving! And for all the fans around the world, I’m thankful for you all!
Dear Miss Fisher Fans,
The moment is here - registration for the 2018 Miss Fisher Con is now open! The Con will be held in Portland, Oregon, from June 28-30, 2018. Early bird registration is just $185, and will be open until December 31, 2017; starting January 1, 2018, the registration fee will be $225, so don’t delay - register now!
With your registration, you’ll get:
If you’re ready to book your room, the Embassy Suites Portland Downtown has a block of rooms set aside at a special price for con attendees. Rooms at the Embassy Suites include complimentary breakfast and happy hour every day, and you’ll be in the heart of what’s happening at the con. All rooms are suites, and big enough to share (up to four to a room!) - if you’re looking for a roommate, stay tuned; we’re working on a way for you to reach out to other fans who might have the same need.
Are you a vendor of Miss Fisher or 1920s-themed products, or do you know a vendor who might be interested in having a table at the Con? We’re also taking vendor applications now! Vendor spaces include a 10'x10' space, including a table (feel free to bring additional tables), and the vendor areas will be open Friday and Saturday all day. Vendors will also be mentioned on our website, and additional opportunities for promotion are available. All vendor applications will be vetted by our committee for suitability; applications are due by December 15, 2017, and all vendors will be notified by January 15, 2018.
There will be more details coming soon - we have a special event that we’re still working out the bits and pieces on. More will be revealed soon, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it! We’ll announce it in a future newsletter, so if you’re not signed up yet, be sure to visit our website to do that!
We are so excited about this upcoming con, and we hope you are too - it’s a wonderful event (if we do say so ourselves), filled with great people, fascinating information, and tons of fun. We hope to see you there!
Hello, Miss Fisher fans!
You might have noticed our new look this month - we did some sprucing up (sadly, we had no Mr. Butler or red raggers to help us get it done)! Behold our new logo for 2018, created for us by the wonderful Mary Holste (one half of The Miss Fisher Philes podcast) - isn’t she gorgeous?
The other big news is that Every Cloud Productions has a Kickstarter campaign going to help fund the movie Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears! In less than 10 days, the campaign has blasted past its initial goal, through three stretch goals, and is well on its way toward a fourth. The more people who pledge, the better - the number of supporters is as important as the dollars, because the EC team is working hard to show their other investors just how much the fans want this movie.
We at the Adventuresses’ Club can’t wait to see what they do with our intrepid detectives on the big screen, and we certainly hope to see the rest of the Wardlow family in the film as well. If you can pledge, please do; if you can’t pledge, please share the link wherever you can. There are still more than 20 days left in the campaign, so let’s see how far we can make this thing go!
Last but not least, as a reminder, Miss Fisher Con 2018 is going to be held from Thursday, June 28 to Saturday, June 30 in Portland, Oregon. Portland is a wonderfully weird city, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the con there. Want to learn more about our location? Here’s some linkage to get you started:
If all goes according to plan, we’ll open early bird registrations in late October or early November. We look forward to seeing you next June!
The Adventuresses’ Club of the Americas
Hello, fellow Miss Fisher fans!
Before anything else, let me just say that the Adventuresses’ thoughts go out to all of those who’ve been affected by Hurricane Harvey - we hope you’re all safe and well! ♥
Since the last time we wrote, the Adventuresses have been hard at work lining up the first details for the 2018 Miss Fisher Con, and we are so excited!
Save the Date: The 2018 Miss Fisher Con will take place
Thursday, June 28 to Saturday, June 30 in Portland, Oregon!
We’ve lined up the Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Downtown as our location. This hotel comes with some amazing amenities, including:
We don’t have all of the details yet, but here’s a (very) loose schedule, some of which is based on the responses to our post-con survey (shout out to all of you who responded - your input was invaluable, so thank you again!):
Now that we have a location and dates selected, we’ll be working on the next details, such as which of the show’s amazing actors will be our special guests (and if you have ideas, please reach out to us - we have a committee working on it already) and what the sessions will be, along with funding ideas and registration details.
Want to be involved with the con? If you would like to present a session, be a volunteer, or set up a vendor table, please email us at email@example.com, and we’ll follow up with you when we have more details. (If you’ve already contacted us, thank you! These details will be coming soon.)
We’ll be in touch soon, so until then, we’ll just say sayonara!
Hi Miss Fisher fans!
Thank you for bearing with us as we decompressed from our fabulous Miss Fisher Con 2017! Have you checked out the photo album we created on the website? It’s not all of our photos, but it’s a start! If you have photos you’d like to share with us, we’d love to see them - make a Google folder and share it with us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll include your photos in our slideshow!
We’ve heard of several smaller meetups that have happened since the con - we’re delighted! We’d love to document those too, if you want to share. Photos or stories are welcome!
What’s next for the con, you ask? Well, we hope you’ll be happy to hear that we’ve decided, officially, to do it again in 2018! We’re hard at work planning the dates (shout out to everyone who answered our post-con survey!) and location. We want to mix it up, so the 2018 con won’t be in Vegas - we don’t know where it will be yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we decide.
Got an idea for a session you’d like to moderate or a topic you’d like to present in 2018? Please email us at email@example.com - there were some fantastic suggestions in our survey, and we’d love to see them happen! And we can always use more help behind the scenes, so if you’re interested in being a part of the planning committee, send us a note!
We’re hoping to send out an email newsletter every four to six weeks; if you know someone who’d like to stay informed, we hope you’ll help them sign up!
Hope you’re all well!
