Big news, Miss Fisher fans!
As you may know, we established the Adventuresses’ Club of the Americas (ACotA) as just a name for the group of volunteers who produced the 2017 Miss Fisher Con in Las Vegas. When we began, we had no real intention of the con becoming an annual thing - we only knew that we wanted it to exist. The success of the con in May was both delightful and terrifying, and we came to the conclusion that if we wanted to continue to produce this event, we needed to be more formal about our association.
So we are proud to announce that as of October 2017, the ACotA is a registered 501(c)7 nonprofit social organization! You can read our mission at the bottom of this email or on our website at www.missfishercon.com. The con staff are still all unpaid volunteers, but the con itself is packaged up much more neatly as far as the IRS is concerned.
We have determined inaugural board members to serve this coming year; new board member terms will begin following the 2018 Miss Fisher Con in June. This year’s board members are:
These seven, along with Sophie Cohen-Kleinlerer and Mana Sackley (con committee members who aren’t on the board), make up the entirety of the current con staff.
“But what does this mean,” you ask? More details will be coming, but the bottom line is that you too can be an official member of the ACotA. All of your dues will be put back into producing the annual convention (to pay for everything from airfare for VIPs down to the paper for the con agenda) or occasional smaller regional events. As an ACotA member, you will receive an exclusive membership pin and, beginning with the 2019 Miss Fisher Con, you’ll get a discount on registration. You’ll also be able to nominate new board members and participate in the annual board elections.
On a personal note, ACotA members will also get the satisfaction of helping bring this amazing event to life year after year, and for me, that’s the selling point. This fandom changed my life for the better - it’s going to sound like hyperbole, but I am truthfully a happier, more complete person because of it. If I can support the fandom and the beautiful people in it, I want to do it. I hope that you feel the same.
For those fans in the US, happy Thanksgiving! And for all the fans around the world, I’m thankful for you all!
